The St.Louis arch formerly symbolized the gateway to western territories. It was the last stop before barren wastelands and the unknown rolling plains. After modern progress, that symbol in St. Louis has been decomissioned. The new symbol is now a gas and food station on the west end of the Kansas turnpike.

Surprisingly, there are no golden arches here.

Driving I70 westbound from St.Louis is a ribbon assault of RV dealerships, McDonalds and Subway combo gas stations, outlet malls, occasional ginormous antique malls and we absolutely cannot go ten miles without a Lions Den adult bookstore, "couples welcome," just in case you developed a sudden unsatiable urge for porn within the last eight minutes when you passed the previous adult store. (That one had an arcade)

Missouri offers you the chance to stock up your 82mph family wagon with all your old timey needs for the great journey out into the wild during the 4 hours to cross before jumping off of the diving board built by "Kansas Turnpike Association" This system is maintained by Transit Works. Thats right

Tworks

Kansas, where your provisions of star crunches are not enough and your Sprint cell phone, whose world headquarters are in KANSAS city, runs out of service just west of Salina, not to be seen again for another 4+ hours or reaching an hour Into Colorado.

The new symbol of westward expansion includes Hardees/Carls jr., Taco Bell, personal $8 Pizza Hut pizzas and Duncan Donuts. Indeed at this location, America will get the runs on Duncan.

dont stretch the yellow fill light. I did. Its a bad idea out here in the territories.

oh I wont! I have a whole write up on how to successfully drive across it. The key is to want to spend time there.

I went to college in Manhattan, KS (not far from here) and would drive home to Maryland a few times a year. This particular service station and I have many good memories...

Wait, we're you on I70 the whole way? If so, yes just keep driving. If you go south on I35, stop in Wichita for an Oppo meetup!
